DIE TÖDLICHE DORIS
Zu spät kam die Einladung von Masanori Akashi für Japan 1988. Als Postpunkband hatte sich Die Tödliche Doris bereits 1987 im Jahr zuvor aufgelöst. Was also tun?
Würde Doris ein Konzert geben, dann wäre es eine Art Comeback oder Wiedereinigung als Band. Das wollte Doris nicht. So entstand die Idee, statt zu konzertieren, ein Theaterstück aufzuführen:
„Das war Die Tödliche Doris 1980 – 1987“
lautete der Titel des Stückes.

Inzwischen sind wir zu der Meinung gekommen, dass sie nicht mehr zu den großen Geistern unseres Jahrhundert zu rechnen sind. / Meanwhile we came to the belief, that they are no longer to be counted among the great spirits of our century. In diesem Theaterstück könnten die unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen des körperlosen Popstars sichtbar werden, in Gestalt einer Inszenierung. Das Publikum sollte die Gestaltwerdung eines Kunstkonzeptes verfolgen, von den Anfängen als Elektronik- und Postpunkband, ihre Metamorphosen, Strategien, die am Ende in der Verkostung und Auflösung durch Wein enden, getrunken von Masanori Akashi in Tokyo. Das Vergehen von sieben Jahren. „Hier stehe ich zwischen einer Band, die gar nicht mehr existiert. Prost!“ Und Doris floss nun als Vino da tavola bianco in seinen Körper und löst sich in ihm auf.
Die Körper der Bandmitglieder sind jetzt abwesend, nur die Hüllen sichtbar, Hüllen in Form ihrer Kleidung, ihrer Kostüme, der sich reproduzierenden Gesten und Wiederholungen des Ausdrucks, des Klangs und Gesänge.
Im Stück werden die einzelnen Stationen vom Moderator Masanori Akashi kommentiert, der zwischen den Akteuren auf der Bühne steht und die Vorgänge dem Publikum erläutert.
Die Grundlage des Videos ist das dokumentarische Material der beiden Auftritte von Die Tödliche Doris 1988 im Club Quattro mit Masanori Akashi.

Masanori Akashi’s invitation to Japan in 1988 came too late. Post-punk Band The Deadly Doris had already dismantled in 1987. What to do?
If Doris were to play a concert, it would be like a comeback or a reunion as a band. Doris didn’t want to do that. So instead of playing a concert, the idea came about to stage a theater piece:
“That was The Deadly Doris 1980-1987”
This is the title of the theater piece.
In the theater piece the various phases of bodiless pop star Doris appear in the form of a mise-en-scène. The audience can see the transformation of an art concept from its very beginnings as an electronic and post-punk band, following its metamorphoses and its strategies, until its final consumption and dissolution through wine, which was drank by Masanori Akashi.
“Here I’m standing with a band that no longer exists. Cheers!” And Doris now flows as a Vina da tavola bianco through Akashi’s body and dissolving inside.
The bodies of the band members are absent, only visible as shells in the form of their clothing and costumes, through the repetition of gestures and facial expressions, of sounds and vocals.
In the theater piece the various phases are commented upon by Masanori Akashi, who is standing in between the actors on stage and explains to the audience what is happening.
The video is based on documentary material of two concerts from The Deadly Doris in 1988 in Club Quattro with Masanori Akashi.
